Pinball machines are often mimicing movie scenes.
In the 1990s there was a pinball machine about the Indiana Jones Trilogy – it still was a trilogy at that time.
Eventually – if you’d shoot the pinball into a special cavity it would start a videogame: a wagon inside a mine – you were on the steering wheel and every time a rail switch came to sight – you had to decide: left or right – use your flip fingers.
You had to decide fast – left or right.
If you made the right choice for a couple of times – you got extra points.
In life – we often have to decide quickly: in negotiations, if we get an offer in our job or a relationship, if we have to choose between this product or activity or that one. You name it.
As our brain often decides faster than we are concious of it’s using the limbic system. It’s among other stuff responsible for processing emotions. It’s reliable but it has no capacity for language.
Wether we turn the handle left or right – even if we start to think about it intensely, talk to ourselves – often our brain has already decided.
So we can use the scene from Indiana Jones and make it a MicroStepout: feel the rattling of the iron wheels on the track, experience the excitement to escape, see the upcoming rail switch – close your inner eyes and just do: turn the handle left or turn it right.
The „limbic decicion“ usually is a good one if you have to be fast.
It will guide you out of the dark mine.
