It was a heated debate in the weekly meeting. Diane was waiting for her turn. But her colleagues just kept on arguing, yelling and narrowing their points.
A couple of times she started to talk. ‚By all means, this is a good point, but … ‚ – Then she was interrupted and backed out of the conversation.
After the seventh such behaviour – she switched on the spotlights.
The sound cracked like the stadium lights at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India. The biggest stadium in the world with a capacity of over 130.000 spectators.
‚Woosh, woosh, woosh…!‘ Diane turned all the lights on herself.
Then she spoke up. She heard herself clearly.
The noise around her fell silent.
When she was done, she switched off the spotlights and returned to her seat.
Sometimes you have to assert yourself in challenging communicational or competetive situations. If that becomes difficult – try to switch on the spotlight and turn it on yourself.
Now it‘s my Time to speak!
Now it counts and eyes are on me!
Not everyone is and extrovert or can fake to be one.
But you can set the stage for yourself. Microstepout by entering the stage, make your point and leve the stage shortly after.
There’s no point in waiting too long.
