Fatty layers – how to become more resilient

Hilda had never liked cold water. But in the last years of her twenties – her live had gotten pretty rough. Online she found some experiences of people talking about the benefits of cold exposure. But whenever she tried a cold shower in the morning, she gave up – after a few seconds. She didn’t like the cold.

She was attracted to the heat of the sauna, to the pleasant warmth of the summer in southern Italy and everything warm in general.

One day, during her second round of sauna – some may call it heat exposure – her mind first drifted – just to come back and make her feel an additional warmth layer put around her waist. Is it fat? She asked herself. Maybe I can put on another one. Which she did. In fact she put on a couple of fatty layers around her body on that day. Just to peel them off of one by one when she stepped from the heat of the sauna into the cold plunge afterwards.

Put on one layer after another one on in the heat, then peel them of in the cold.

Perfecting this procedure for Hilda it became a skill.

She used it to finally step into cold morning showers, using her fatty layers from the day before. 30 seconds – one layer, one minute 2 layers, sometimes 3, 1.30 minutes 5 layers – you get the idea.

Putting on fatty layers can help to become more resilient to outside forces, be it toxic colleagues at the workplace, pressure put upon you from duties to fulfill or just to stand the burdon of stress and illness.

If we consitently put on additional layers, you always have some to peel off.
More resilience is just one of the many benefits. Let’s try to put on some fatty layers like Hilda. They keep you warm, they keep you strong, they make you feel secure.
